Bremont DH-88 Limited Edition
With a passion for aviation, Nick and Giles English founded their watch company, Bremont, in 2002 with a focus on making watches for pilots.
The brothers themselves have flown historic aircrafts since they were teenagers and often visit the Shuttleworth Trust, a collection of over 40 significant aeroplanes, one of which is the DH-88 Comet “Grosvenor House”.
The plane was designed and built by Sir Geoffrey de Havilland to fly in the “World’s Greatest Air Race” from London to Melbourne. On the 20th October 1934, the Comet’s two pilots, Charles Scott and Tom Campbell Black, set off from Mildenhall alongside 19 other aircraft, to start their 11,3000-mile journey.
They encountered bad weather, exhaustion, component issues and even engine failure but won the race, arriving in Melbourne in just 70 hours, 54 minutes.
It’s therefore unsurprising that Bremont would choose this iconic plane as inspiration for their 2016 limited edition watch, going as far as including a piece of plywood from the plane in the watch’s rotor.
The 43mm automatic chronograph takes design cues from watches of that era, with an over-sized crown and Arabic numbers, while flashes of red give a nod to the red paint of the Comet. The watch also features a GMT function, operated by an internal rotating bezel – ideal for cross-continental travel.
This special watch, limited to just 282 pieces, is in an excellent pre-owned condition and comes with an unworn brown alligator strap. Also supplied are four other Bremont straps for a variety of looks, including two vintage leather straps, a black rubber strap, and a black leather NATO strap.
Sold as a complete set, the watch is supplied with it’s own British-made red leather pouch presented in a "DH-88" dust cover and box. Also included is the DH-88 booklet and purchase card, red leather keyring and watch tool. Furthermore, the watch is covered by our six-month warranty.
