A. Lange & Söhne 1815 Chronograph

There are few movements as breath-taking as those produced by A. Lange & Söhne and this 1815 Chronograph does not disappoint.
 
From the front, the black dial remains relatively legible, almost simple, yet the unusually lowered subdials and the addition of a pulsometer scale, along with the text “FLYBACK CHRONOGRAPH” suggest there is something a little more exciting going on behind the scenes.
 
Turning over the watch, an exhibition case back reveals the real beauty of this piece – the manual-wind calibre L951.5 movement. More than a movement, the 306 components resemble a city, its layers intricately intertwined. Untreated German silver plates and bridges have expertly chamfered edges and are decorated with blued screws and golden text. A hand-engraved balance cock sits proudly alongside the striped finishing.
 
Despite the magnitude of the movement, the watch itself is a compact 39.5mm and wears well on the wrist. The white gold has both brushed and polished finishes, highlighting its carefully designed lines. Curved pushers follow the shape of the case and angular lugs have an industrial look, complimenting the smooth bezel.
 
I feel as though this piece blurs the lines of a dress watch and a sports chronograph, therefore looks very handsome paired with its black alligator strap, but would also suit a more casual strap.
