What happens when you consign a watch with Watch Concierge Services?

Updated: May 12

Consigning your watch with Watch Concierge Services takes out all the hassle of trying to sell it yourself, and often gives you a higher return than if you were to sell it directly to another pre-owned watch retailer. We cover everything from testing the movement, photographing your watch, listing it online, dealing with enquiries, negotiating offers, managing secure payment, safe shipping, and all while you can be confident that your watch is insured and safe in our care.

We thought we’d run through what’s involved as part of the process, and we’d love to hear from you if you have a watch that you’re looking to sell, or if you have any questions or feedback.

Initial enquiry

Enquiries are received via a number of channels, but if you’re here on the website, you can use the Contact Us form. When we’ve received details of your watch, such as the make and model, age and if it has its original box and papers, we’ll do some research and come back to you with some price suggestions, including our rates which are usually in the region of 8% to 10%.

Once a client has decided to consign a watch with us, we’d send out a Consignment Agreement with all of the important details, but most reassuringly, that your watch will be fully insured whilst in our care. We can then arrange to meet you in person to collect your watch, or receive it via post if that works best for you. We can also meet you to discuss consigning your watch, without any commitment to go ahead.

Preparing your watch for sale

The fun bit starts as soon as we have your watch. Firstly, it gets booked into our system and then passes through quality control to check the condition, and testing to check the movement and functions. The average power reserve for a mechanical watch is 48+ hours, so this can take a few days. It then gets cleaned, ready for its photoshoot – we aim to take 20 – 25 photographs with a mix of product photos, lifestyle images, macro shots and those boring ones which show up any scratches. We then do some further research on your watch in order to write a wonderful description to accompany the photographs.

If for any reason your watch fails testing, we have a number of trusted watchmakers that we work with to get your watch into a saleable condition at the most cost effective price.

Listing your watch

Once it passes testing (usually within 7 days), we list your watch on our website, on Chrono24 (where we are listed as a Professional Dealer) and eBay. Details of your watch are also shared on our two Instagram accounts, our Facebook page, relevant Facebook groups, our LinkedIn account and are sent out to any contacts in our network who we think might be interested.

The average time for a watch to sell is 90 days and during this period we’ll deal with any enquiries (including those eBay time-wasters), take additional photographs and videos, show your watch to potential buyers and, with your permission, take it along to watch events.

Managing the sale

We then look after the tricky bit, the sale itself. We’ll deal with any negotiations, ensure secure payment, and then arrange careful packaging and insured shipping of your watch. We’re also on hand to deal with any after-sales enquiries too. If at any point you decide that you’d like to sell your watch a little quicker, we can suggest other options such as selling to a pre-owned retailer (usually within our network), or working with a number of auction houses that we would recommend. Lastly, we can offer to help you if you decide to sell your watch yourself.

Reviews

We like to work hard to sell your watch, so that you don’t have to. But don’t just take our word for it, a number of happy clients have left reviews on Trustpilot and Google too….
