What are your 2025 Watch Goals?

Updated: Jan 1

Personally, I’m not a huge fan of bold New Year’s Resolutions – January is miserable enough without the thought of giving up alcohol for a month. I don’t intend to go to the gym at 6am every morning and if I want a burger and fries on my 11pm train home, I will. However, I am a fan of goal setting and manifestation, especially when it comes to fun things. How else will the universe know what you want? As watch enthusiasts, we might be inclined to remind the universe of that grail watch we’ve been lusting after for years, but if for whatever reason the universe can’t deliver that this year, shall we look at some other options?

Grow your collection

Let’s start with the obvious, who doesn’t want more watches? Did you know that there’s a mathematical equation for the perfect number of watches... n+1, where n = the number of watches that you currently have. Are you the kind of collector who enjoys doing the research, finding the best price, or that vintage piece in a NOS condition? Or weak to the charms of a sales assistant after a glass of champagne or two. Whatever your buying style, more watches are never a bad idea,

Refine your collection

Perhaps you’re looking to take your watch collecting in a different direction. Many clients reach out to me to sell some lesser worn pieces to put towards a bigger piece. Or there are the collectors who want to move into vintage collecting, maybe a specific style or theme, or maybe away from the big brands and start to explore independent watchmaking. The possibilities are endless.

Time to take a break from buying

Maybe 2025 is the year you slow things down a bit. We’ve all been in a position where we’ve had to turn down a watch when our circumstances won’t quite stretch that far. While it won’t scratch that new watch itch, I can highly recommend switching things up with a new strap in the meantime.

Service that discarded watch

How many of you reading this have an old watch in the back of the drawer that is in need of some TLC? Not really sure where to take it, how much it will cost to get it repaired or even if it’s worth it? You’re not alone, and once you take it out of the drawer and look into it, often you’ll find that there are more options than you think.

Watch Admin

If you’re like me, your January to-do list is full of boring jobs (don’t even get me started on my tax return!). When it comes to watches, we can often forget about those less-exciting things like valuations, insurance and security – those things that you don’t think you’ll need until you really do need them.

Events

On to more exciting things, I’ve already started to plan watch events for 2025 – RedBar events, the British Watchmakers Day, Geneva auctions and possibly even Dubai Watch Week. Not to mention, a few more events lined up for Watch Concierge Services. What’s in your diary?

New job

Typically, January is a busy month for job hunters, when the thought of going back to the 9-5 after the Christmas break fills you with more dread than the thought of another turkey dinner. Many dream of a job where you get to play with watches all day. Want some inspiration, be sure to check out my previous blog post
